T-Shirt Collector

I’m always on the lookout for a cool, well designed t-shirt. Collecting fun and inexpensive t-shirts has been a hobby of mine for a long time.

Not too long after we arrived in Tokyo, I spotted a man, probably in his twenties, making a delivery wearing a t-shirt that caught my attention. I liked the colors, red and white letters on a black background. I also liked the font style and spacing. I complimented the man on his t-shirt and asked him if he knew where I could buy a similar one.

He said he didn’t know in gruff manner. I assumed he was busy and I had bothered him so I silently started to walk away. After a few steps, the man called me back. I saw that he was now shirtless with several large tattoos on his chest.

“Here, take my shirt”, he said. I was surprised and elated. I asked if we could take a photo together but he declined. “How about a hug then?”, I asked. He was amiable for a hug so I gave him one.

This was a very brief encounter that I will remember for a long time.

恐らく20代位の男性がTシャツを着て配達をしていました。それは黒い背景に赤と白の文字，そしてフォントのスタイルと間隔もカッコよく並んでいました。

彼に声をかけて「貴方のTシャツ、いいね！」と言い、どこで買うことができるか尋ねました。彼はぶっきらぼうに「知らない」としか返してくれませんでした。私は彼が忙しいと思い、諦めて歩き去っているとすぐに彼は私を呼び止めました。振り返ると彼が胸にいくつかの大きな入れ墨をしているのが見えました。

「これ、やるよ（きっと恥ずかしそうにぶっきらぼうにこう言ったのかな、と思いました）」と言って Tシャツをくれました。私はびっくりと同時に大喜びでした。一緒に写真を撮ってもいいかと尋ねましたが、彼に断られました。「じゃあハグはどうですか？」と私は尋ねました。「ハグはOK!」と答えてくれました。

短い間の出会いでしたが、私は絶対忘れません。
